Collection Analysis Report

You can use the Collection Analysis report to see how the catalog is distributed and areas that need improvement. This lets site librarians quickly make weeding and ordering decisions. District users can view statistics for the entire district, or filter by site, group of sites, or site type.

Note: Enriched Reports is only available for US-based Follett Destiny Cloud customers.

To access the report at the site (or district):

  1. In Destiny Back Office, select Reports > Enriched Reports.
  2. Select Library > Collection Analysis.

Note: If Enriched Reports does not load, click Access Enriched Reports.

The Site/District Summary page has the following data:

  • Items in Collection is based on the number of records in Destiny, including digital materials (such as eBooks).
  • Items per Student is based on the enrollment numbers on file with Follett.

    Note: Hover over Items per Student to see how this number is calculated, including the number of students at the site/district.

  • Average Age is the overall age of the collection.
  • Fiction & Non-Fiction shows the balance of fiction vs. non-fiction and other materials, along with the average age.

    Note: To determine if a title is fiction, non-fiction, or other, the 008 tag of a MARC record for a book or audiobook is used as follows:

    • Books: Literary form (position 33)
      • 0 = Not fiction
      • 1 = Fiction
      • If anything else, it is categorized as Other.

    • Audiobooks: Literary text for sound recordings
      • If Fiction is selected, it is categorized as Fiction.
      • If Fiction is not selected, and Other is also not selected, it is categorized as Non-Fiction.
      • If Fiction is not selected, but Other is selected, it is categorized as Other.
      • If nothing is selected, it is also categorized as Other.

  • Physical & Digital shows the balance between print and non-print materials in Destiny and each category's average age.

    Note: These numbers are based on the Material Type and Subtype in the title record.

  • Collection by: Year groups the collection by decade published. There is also a Potential Errors category that shows copies with either a blank or future publication year.

  • Collection by: Audience shows the number of materials in your collection by related interest level (from the Destiny MARC record).

The Site/District Analysis page has the following data:

  • Dewey Classification shows the average age and total number of titles in a Dewey range. Click the plus sign to expand the top-level Dewey classifications.

  • Age Sensitive shows materials that are age-sensitive, including the average age, number of items in the Dewey range, number of items in a range that are aged, and total number of circulations for the past 10 years.

  • Sublocation shows average age, number of items, and total number of circulations for the past 10 years by Sublocation.
  • Collection by Other Classification shows fiction and non-fiction groups that do not fit into any of the Dewey ranges.
  • Average Reading Level by Program shows the average reading level for Guided Reading/F&P, Lexile®, and Accelerated Reader™ (based on Destiny MARC record data).

To see more details about an element in a table or graph:

Click the element, and then View More Details.

The detailed data shows information for the selected element, including call number, title, author, publication year, barcode, status, sublocation, prefix, audience, reading level, F&P (Fountas & Pinnell), AR (Accelerated Reader), RC (Reading Counts), date acquired, last checkout date, circulations, and number of copies.

To filter data on the District Summary or District Analysis pages:

Use the Filters on the right side of the page to filter by a site, group of sites, or site type.

To customize your view:

To change the view of the data in a way that's most helpful to you, such as by excluding a data point, changing a graph to a table, or exporting it to Excel, use any of the available menu options.

To narrow the report to only the data you want to see, use any of the available widgets and filters.
